The Police

When I was thirteen, I was riding in the car with my mom and my best friend, Justine. We were in the backseat talking about listening to The Police at her house and my mom asked, “How’d you listen to them? Do you have a scanner?” We, of course, laughed and teased her for not knowing one of our FAVORITE BANDS. Geez, Mom, you’re so out of it!

Fast forward almost two and a half decades, everything has changed. I run a restaurant with a bunch of 20-somethings who now consider me the old fart. I got tickets to see The Police in Charlotte with some girlfriends and found myself with a spare one (Justine, where are you now???) and I couldn’t pay those guys to go.

The Police? Are they still alive?”

“I can’t go down to the police station. I have outstanding parking tickets.”

Who?”

One employee just started laughing at me so hard he couldn’t get out his derogatory comment.

I will be 37 next week, and maybe that seemed old to me at 20-something, but it sure doesn’t feel old to me now.

  • At 37, you’re still just a kid.

  • and a successful one at that. don’t ever change.

  • Thank you.

  • I am 29 years old and my long time dream has finally come true-to see Sting perform live, with the additiona of his former band mates in Belgrade a few days ago. Somebody asked you if they were still alive! Gosh, they are alive for sure! Very fit, looking great actually, playing and singing for 1 hour and 45 minutes in the extremeny hot weather on the 24th of June 2008. You would be pleased to see the various generations of people they have gathered in one place: people in their late 50’s, kids under 20, people of my age, one lady of 30 something even went there pregnant with another baby in a stroller…more than 25.000 people of your opinion together singing, dancing and having a great time. After the concert, a taxi driver asked me how many people were there-when he heard the number he said with a laugh that Ceca (a Serbian folk singer, argh!) would gather at least 5 times that much! God!? Let them say whatever they like- the Police are for ever

  • Thank you Tatjana! They did put on a great show! I’ll go back to see them every time, no matter how old we get.
